I don’t use it except to announce to people that I have one. I think it makes me sound like someone who worked hard to achieve something, which I guess I did. But honestly, labor and delivery of my bouncing (off the walls) baby boy was harder and I am infinitely more proud of the results.
My child is work. He is my job. Sometimes, like when the most exciting thing I have to recount at the end of the day is how he pooped and his diaper didn’t catch all of it and I had to race with him to the tub while trying to catch the superfluous poopage, I lose sight of the fact that what I’m doing now is way more important than handling DNA samples. But then there are days when my husband comes home and I’m able to tell him how our son practiced rolling over all morning. Or how he talked his baby gibberish loud and proud throughout story hour at the library. Or how his hand-eye coordination has improved, he belly laughed for the first time, he took my breath away with a single smile…
What I’m doing is work, no doubt about it. But I’m so grateful I was able to quit my job to do it. I feel very lucky.
same gratefulness about being able...be a stay-at-home mom. I can’t imagine missing
